Distinguish humidity from direct wetting
Air humidity is different from repeated water contact. Choose the leaf construction, frame and finish for the actual exposure, including vulnerable edges and hardware penetrations. A moisture-resistant label alone does not specify the entire door assembly or remove the need for suitable room ventilation.
Compare the design options
Use these options to discuss the configuration that fits the room and its intended use. Review dimensions and details against the actual material and hardware selected in the drawing.
Wooden bathroom doors — decision worksheet
Scroll horizontally to see all columns.
| Option | When to consider it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Away from direct spray | An opening primarily exposed to room humidity. | Faces, edges and dry floor conditions around the door. |
| Near a wet area | A location needing specific materials or layout changes. | Water exposure, protection and material suitability. |
| Door with ventilation requirements | A room requiring coordinated airflow. | Ventilation detail, privacy and project requirements. |
Details to send before quotation
Include clear site photos and any available drawings, then clarify the points below. This makes the quotation scope easier to review and helps identify changes before production approval.
- Photograph the opening relative to shower and basin.
- Record floor levels, water paths and ventilation.
- Specify frame, leaf and all edge finishes.
- Specify the privacy lock and appropriate external release arrangement.
Installation and handover checks
Test the privacy lock and door movement. Inspect lower edges and frame-to-floor details, and confirm approved ventilation and the planned separation from direct spray.
| Item | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| Project file | Location, floor, site photos and dimensioned drawings with a revision date. |
| Quotation scope | Identify manufacture, delivery, lifting, installation and work requiring another contractor. |
| Approval | Agree the finish sample, production drawing and item schedule; record changes to price or timing. |
Common questions
Does paint make any wooden door waterproof?
No. Review the material, construction, edges and actual exposure. A painted surface does not establish suitability for persistent wet conditions.
