Conceal cables while preserving access
Map each connection between screen, equipment and outlet. Openings need to accommodate connectors, not just cable thickness. Separate electrical installation from joinery penetrations, and provide removable access panels so equipment and cables can be replaced without damaging the wall feature.
Compare the design options
Use these options to discuss the configuration that fits the room and its intended use. Review dimensions and details against the actual material and hardware selected in the drawing.

| Option | When to consider it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Removable back panel | Several connections within the unit. | Hand access and removal without damage. |
| Route behind panelling | Cables between the screen and storage. | Pull-through path, connectors and access openings. |
| Shelf cable openings | Equipment arranged across levels. | Protected opening edges and retained shelf support. |
Details to send before quotation
Include clear site photos and any available drawings, then clarify the points below. This makes the quotation scope easier to review and helps identify changes before production approval.
- List devices, ports and connector dimensions.
- Coordinate power and data outlets with the contractor.
- Provide device-manual ventilation requirements.
- Mark removable panels and access methods on the drawing.
Installation and handover checks
Test replacing a cable and accessing a real plug before handover. Check that edges and drawers do not compress cables, and have power and data connections tested by the contractor.
| Item | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| Project file | Location, floor, site photos and dimensioned drawings with a revision date. |
| Quotation scope | Identify manufacture, delivery, lifting, installation and work requiring another contractor. |
| Approval | Agree the finish sample, production drawing and item schedule; record changes to price or timing. |
Common questions
Is a small cable hole sufficient for servicing?
It may not pass the connector or allow access to the port. Review the whole cable path and connector sizes before making the openings.
